Food Label Information

labels in order to make quick, informed food decisions that contribute to a healthy diet.

An Overview of a
Food Label
The information in the top section of food labels can vary with each food
product but it usually contains product related information such as; serving size, calories, and
nutrient information.
The Food Code requires a food label to show a list of all the ingredients in
descending order by weight.
It means the farther from the top of the list an ingredient is, the less of it
is contained in the packet.
The bottom section of a food label contains a footnote with Daily Values (DVs)
for 2,000 and 2,500 calorie diets.
|

|
This footnote provides recommended dietary
information for important nutrients, including fats, sodium and fiber. The footnote is found only on larger
packages and does not change from product to product.

page to be of interest.
