Organic food nutrition is just as important as eating organic food. You need to be sure that the food you put in your body is of the best quality, but also that you are getting enough from each food group to keep you healthy. It is just as much about how you eat, as it is what you eat that counts. When choosing organic foods you will also want to remember that just because a food is organic does not mean it is the best food choice for you. You still want to eat a balanced diet and stay low in sugar, salt, and fat content. Nutrition is not always about whether food is organic or not, it is about what and how you eat as well. Eating a Healthy DietEating healthy begins with what you are putting into your body. Organic food nutrition starts with eating organic foods, but goes one step further to choosing the right types of food to put in your body. When you are choosing to eat healthy, it means you are eating from the main food groups. One should still stay away from high sugar foods, such as ice cream, candy, and soda. Just because one can buy organic junk food, does not mean that it is healthy for them. You will want to buy lean organic meats, such as chicken, fish, and beef for protein. If you do not eat meat, then you can get organic tofu, beans, lentils, and nut butters to fulfill those needs. Organic food nutrition also means eating enough fruits and vegetables. These provide you with essential vitamins and minerals, as well as fiber. Fruit is also a healthy carbohydrate, or sugar, that is very good for you. Essential good fats can be gotten by cooking with good oils, such as sunflower, safflower, canola, olive, and sesame seed oils. Proper portion Control Organic food nutrition does not stop with eating organic food. It also means you need to mind calories and watch your portion control. Eating too much of anything can be harmful to one’s health. Just because it is organic, does not mean you can eat more than you should or your body needs. The right amount of food you should eat will depend on many factors – exercise, activity, BMI, weight loss goals, gender, and height. If you are not very active during the day, then you will want to eat smaller portions. Your body will not need as much in order to maintain its natural functions. The more you exercise or are active during any given day, the more organic foods you can enjoy. The organic foods you choose should be healthy for the most part. Try to stay away from the fatty foods and one filled with sugar. These can make you gain weight, feel lethargic, and cause health problems, whether they are organic or not. Like anything else, moderation is the key. Once can enjoy organic comfort foods in moderation, but should not assume organic means eat an entire cake.
